A Bay Shore woman who turned 98 years old Monday is recovering after she underwent open-heart surgery last week.
Esther Cohen, or Queen Esther as she is known, still works out three times a week and is a self-professed "gym rat."
Cohen and her late husband, Abe, started their daily workouts together more than three decades ago. Their son, who is 76 years old, says exercise was a way of life for his parents.
"They would get up at 4 in the morning. They would be at Ballys when it opened up at 6 a.m.," said Jack Cohen.
Doctors suggested that she waits six to eight weeks before she starts exercising again.
Esther Cohen has two sons, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
