County Executive Laura Curran and Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder swore in 96 recruits to the Nassau Police Academy Friday morning in Mineola.
Among the recruits is Marine Corps Capt. Brian Carney, whose father, two uncles and cousin are also police officers.
“It's been a long time coming,” he told News 12. “It's always kind of been a dream to serve the community and carry on the tradition of the family."
The group will start an intense seven-month training session before patrolling the streets of Nassau.
