Some of the first 9/11 responders and emergency medical teams involved in the rescue effort at Ground Zero gathered for a tribute at Northwell Medical Center in Manhasset Thursday morning.

Dr. Michael Guttenberg says he heard the deafening explosion of the second plane hitting the South Tower while he was getting ready to triage the injured.

"Shielded from personal injury by our response vehicle, we were immediately confronted by multiple patients that were struck by debris," says Guttenberg.

Guttenberg spent many 16-hour days at Ground Zero and is now suffering from pancreatic cancer.

Dr. Jacqueline Moline helped set up the World Trade Center Health Program and is seeing that hundreds of first responders get the medical help they need.

"We established something that will outlive all of us, that will take care of folks for years to come," says Moline.

Other first responders who spoke at the event included the "Singing Cop" Danny Rodriguez and Scott Strauss, who are both now retired from the NYPD.

Sunday will mark 15 years since the Sept. 11th terror attacks.
