First responders who put their lives on the line in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks were honored Saturday in Nesconset.
One-hundred names were added to a wall at the 9/11 Responders Remembered Park during a ceremony.
John Feal, of the FealGood Foundation, has been helping Sept. 11 responders and their families get compensation from their illnesses. He says in addition to the 500 people who have died over the past 15 years and are listed on the wall, the 100 added Saturday were due to related illnesses.
The names of the first responders were read out loud during the ceremony in the park as well.
Doctors from the World Trade Center Health Program have linked nearly 70 types of cancer to exposure to Ground Zero cancers that are sometimes rare, aggressive and hard to treat.
As many as 400,000 people are estimated to be affected by diseases linked to Sept 11.
