9/11 first responders from Nassau honored at Ground Zero

Sept. 11 first responders from Nassau County were honored at Ground Zero today by fellow first responders, family and friends of Sept. 11 victims and County Executive Ed Mangano (R-Nassau).
The event was held at the Sept. 11 Memorial as part of Nassau County First Responders Day.
Sgt. Richard Doerler, of the Nassau County Police Department, helped place a wreath at the memorial's South Tower pool, where all of the first responders' names are etched.
As a member of the pipe and drum band, Detective Mary Farrell, of the Nassau County Police Department, has played at many Sept. 11 events, but she says this one was different.
"There's always jobs that stand out in our memories, and this is going to be one of them," she says.
Mangano says he'd like to make this an annual tradition at Ground Zero so that people never forget the ultimate sacrifice that so many Long Islanders made.
