A woman was found dead after flames ripped through her Selden home early Monday morning.
The woman has been identified as 85-year-old Eufemia Smith.
About 50 firefighters responded to the blaze that sparked around 6:30 a.m.
Jeremiah Jones, who lives next door, says his girlfriend's mother spotted the smoke when she got up for work and called 911.
Selden firefighters took the woman out of the burning home, but could not save her. Investigators say Smith was the sole occupant of the home.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but authorities say it does not appear to be criminal.
The Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Office is performing an autopsy to determine Smith's exact cause of death.
