Police say an 84-year-old man was killed in a crash just outside the Eastport post office.

According to police, Gerald Bennett was driving his car and exiting the parking lot at 25 Eastport Manor Road when he collided with a Ford F350 that was traveling northbound around 5 p.m.

Bennett, 84, of East Moriches, was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the Ford, Dawson Evarhart, 19, of Westhampton, remained at the scene and was uninjured.

Both vehicles were impounded for a safety check.
