An 80-year-old woman, Betty Cater, faces charges after allegedly assaulting a police officer during an investigation at her East Clinton Avenue home.

According to authorities, officers responded to a complaint when Cater became agitated. She punched an officer in the face and scratched his neck, then resisted arrest.

The injured officer was hospitalized.

Cater is scheduled to appear in court later today.
