8 people rescued as boat takes on water in Sands Point

The Town of North Hempstead Bay Constables, US Coast Guard, Rye Police Department Marine Bureau and the FDNY Marine Bureau assisted in the rescue.

Crews worked to save eight people from a boat taking on water Friday night in Sands Point.

Police say the Nassau County Marina Bureau responded to the 62-foot vessel near Success Rock around 7 p.m.

The Town of North Hempstead Bay Constables, US Coast Guard, Rye Police Department Marine Bureau and the FDNY Marine Bureau assisted in the rescue.

The passengers were safely taken back to shore. No injuries were reported.

Police say Towboat US later arrived to tow the vessel.
