A 73-year-old man is accused of murdering his wife Sunday in Moorestown, Burlington County prosecutors announced.

According to authorities, police were called to the Moorestown Woods Apartment Homes just before 3 p.m. where they found Linda Slavin’s body dead in the couple's bed.

Prosecutors say an autopsy showed Linda, also 73, died from strangulation. Her husband Gerard Slavin was arrested and charged with first degree murder and aggravated assault.

Gerard was taken to the Burlington County Jail in Mount Holly where he awaits a detention hearing in court.

An investigation is being conducted by the Moorestown Township Police Department and the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office.
