Dozens of Manorville homes will soon have safe and clean drinking water for the first time in years.
Suffolk County announced Thursday that it has the $1.5 million needed to finish connecting 64 homes to the public water supply.
Those houses have their own wells, but homeowners can't drink from them because of concerns regarding groundwater contamination.
"This community has carried the weight of their water for decades and that comes to an end today," says Kelly McClincy, a Manorville homeowner. "We started as a group of 60 families, and we've grown to a support network of over 100 individuals."
The project is linked to a larger effort in the Manorville-Calverton area that has been ongoing for years.
