Sixty new recruits are set to join the Nassau County Police Department.

The class will move on to a seven-month training session before officially becoming officers.

Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder says training is a lot different now from when he joined in 1986, but the expectations are the same.

"Over the next seven months, you need to understand what your training is about," Ryder said. "Respect, honor, look at the words behind me. Loyalty, integrity, fairness and excellence. That spells life."

Ryder says this is the most diverse class the county has ever brought in.

He says the department is always receiving the latest training, which helps when there is unrest in the country.
