Some of Long Island’s brightest are moving ahead in one of the most prestigious science contests in the country.

Six students were announced among the top 40 finalists in the Regeneron Science Talent Search Competition.

The students were chosen based on their research, leadership skills and commitment to academics.

Each of them will be heading to Washington, D.C. in March to compete for more than $1.8 million in awards.
