More than 500 people participated in the Jordan’s Run Veterans Memorial 5K in Sag Harbor on Sunday.
The run is in honor of 19-year-old Marine Lance Cpl. Jordan C. Haerter, who was killed in action on April 22, 2008 when he and another marine stopped a suicide bomber from entering a Marine compound in Iraq.
All of the money raised at Jordan’s Run will go toward scholarships for Pierson High School graduates who pursue careers in the military and law enforcement.
In 2009, Jordan Haerter and Jonathan Yale were posthumously awarded the Navy Cross for their final act of heroism.
