Four people from Connecticut were rescued Sunday from a burning boat in Port Jefferson.
The fire started around 12:45 p.m. near the ferry terminal.
The fire chief says four people were on board at the time.
Flames and thick smoke rose from the boat as the boaters swam away.
Police say an off-duty police sergeant helped rescue them from the water.
A person on a Jet Ski says he also helped bring the victims to shore.
All four boaters and an off-duty public safety officer were taken to the hospital.
