Five alleged MS-13 gang members were arraigned Monday on conspiracy charges in connection with a 2017 homicide.
As News 12 has reported, Carlos Rivas Majano was found in a wooded area along the Meadowbrook Parkway in 2018.
Investigators say Rivas Majano was killed with a machete.
Luis Alejandro Varela, 23, also known as Felon, from Mineola; Carlos Benitez-Hernandez, 23, also known as Malaspecto, from Uniondale; Jose Quintanilla-Cruz, 26, also known as Destructo and Destructor, from Hempstead; Nerlin Chacon-Ruano, 23, also known as Callajero, from Hempstead; and William Reyes-Fuentes, 26, also known as Desobediente, from Uniondale, went before a judge.
All five are expected back in court in September.
The defendants were previously arraigned on a charge of murder in the second degree. They face 50 years to life in prison if convicted on the combined charges.
