A total of 44 Long Island high school students have been named semifinalists in the prestigious 2016 Intel Science Talent Search competition.
Jericho High School had the most semifinalist winners on Long Island, with a total of six.
The recognition is the result of three years of hard work and research.
Rishi Shah's project focused on helping glaucoma patients.
"My project focused on the development of a fiber that can be used to regenerate neurons post-entry," said Shah. "This fiber can also be used to give them back their eyesight."
The students will go on to compete for the top three Intel awards of $150,000 apiece. Those winners will be announced in March.
