Police arrested four armed robbery suspects that they say led them on a pursuit from Elmont to St. Albans Saturday morning.
Police say the suspects forced their way into a home on Dorothea Lane, bound a family of three and ransacked their residence.
Officers who were called to the scene spotted the suspects' van heading west on Dutch Broadway and tried to stop it, but the vehicle sped away. Police pursued the van into St. Albans, and along the way, officers say the suspects were shooting at them.
"It was quite dangerous," says Detective Lt. Kevin Smith, of the Nassau County Police Department. "These individuals were shooting at police officers who were trying to pull them over."
The chase ended about 10 minutes later at Linden Boulevard and 175th Street when the suspects' van got a flat tire.
One of the four alleged robbers was taken to Nassau University Medical Center to be treated for a gunshot wound he suffered during the chase.
