Four people were rescued after a boat hit a sandbar near Moriches Inlet early Sunday morning.

The Center Moriches Fire Department says the 31-foot Boston Whaler was returning from a fishing trip with four occupants aboard when it struck the sandbar.

The Marine Incident Response Team, a combination of marine units from the Center Moriches, Mastic, Mastic Beach, East Moriches, West Hampton and Eastport fire departments, responded to the call along with the U.S. Coast Guard.

The Center Moriches Fire Department says that one of their rescue swimmers swam to the sandbar to make contact with the four occupants. Three of the four were removed from the boat as a precaution due to the approaching weather while the captain elected to stay aboard while waiting for Sea Tow to assist in freeing the vessel.

No injuries were reported.
