Authorities are investigating four burglaries over a four-day span in Smithtown and St. James.

Suffolk police say the crimes all took place within a few miles of each other between Oct. 16 and Oct. 19. While police have not said if they believe the four cases are connected, the thieves struck during the day when no one was home in each incident.

The burglar entered through either unlocked doors or windows in each of the three Smithtown homes. The St. James break-in occurred at a vacant home.

Anyone with information on the burglaries is asked to contact Suffolk Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
