Police say they have arrested four people in connection to multiple gas station and bank robberies in Suffolk County.
Police say three men and a woman are accused of robbing banks and gas stations from Amityville to Commack since Dec. 29. A bank in Huntington Station was robbed twice.
According to police, the suspects were captured after a good Samaritan followed a man fleeing from a gas station holdup in Commack last Friday and gave police a description of the car.
Patrol officers saw a vehicle that matched the description and initiated a traffic stop. After an investigation, the officer arrested Shabril Maxwell, 21, of Copiague, Stacey Beck, 32, of Bay Shore, and Douglas McKeefery, 30 of North Babylon.
Police say Maxwell had been a person of interest in several of the bank and gas station robberies.
Further investigation revealed Robert DiGrazia, 24, of Deer Park, was also a person of interest. DiGrazia was arrested Thursday.
Acting Commissioner Tim Sini says the suspects were identified through a combination of video surveillance, witness statements and physical evidence.
Suffolk police say the motive for the robberies was to support heroin addiction.
All suspects have been charged with robbery.
Anyone with more information about the gas station and bank robberies is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
