37 Suffolk beaches, 14 in Nassau closed to swimming due to high bacteria levels

Officials say swimming will be allowed once testing reveals that the bacteria has subsided.

A total of 51 beaches on Long Island were closed to swimming Friday due to high levels of bacteria found in the water.
A total of 37 of those beaches were in Suffolk County, and 14 were in Nassau County.
Officials say swimming will be allowed once testing reveals that the bacteria has subsided.
