A new school year is right around the corner, but before it began News 12's Kevin Maher had a surprise for some of the most recent News 12 Scholar Athletes.
During the school year, News 12 and Bethpage Federal Credit Union team up to honor 30 Scholar athletes.
From Sewhanaka to Sag Harbor, all of them were great kids and all of them got $1,000 scholarships.
Three of them were given the Bob Wolff Memorial scholarship totaling $2,000 each.
The award is named after the first News 12 sportscaster, and the man who created this award.
News 12 went to Westhampton Beach to honor record setter Belle Smith. In Mt. Sinai, News 12 surprised state champion wrestler and four-time class president Matt Campo, and went to Babylon, to surprise Emma Ward. Ward overcame two blown out knees to become the captain of three varsity teams.
All three are award winning athletes had GPAs in the 90s.
