Going back to school at a SUNY or CUNY community college could be free in the future - if Gov. Kathy Hochul's proposed plan comes to pass.
Announced during Tuesday's State of the State address, the state would pay for tuition, books, supplies and fees for students who are studying for careers in high demand, such as education, health care, technology and engineering.
SUNY's chancellor believes having a local workforce ready to answer the call of companies looking to set up shop in New York will help to boost local economies, especially on Long Island.
Gov. Hochul is expected to unveil more details of the plan when she announces her executive budget next week.
