The Smithtown Library Board has a new trio of elected trustees.
The winners in Tuesday's election are Annette Galarza, Mildred Bernstein and Howard Knispel.
The election was convened months after the town library board barred LGBTQ+ displays in the children's section during Pride Month.
That decision was quickly reversed after statewide public backlash.
Bernstein says he hopes to bring an open mind and understanding that the world is changing and everyone should be accepted.
Knispel said he is thankful to be elected and is proud that the Smithtown community is showing they are open minded.
LGBTQ community members applauded the results of Tuesday's election.
"They are going to make sure that everyone feels represented and that everyone sees themselves," says LGBT Network President David Kilmnick.
Voters also approved the library's $17.4 million budget.
The results have also now been posted to the library’s website.
