Three more cases of the drug-resistant staph infection dubbed the superbug were confirmed by health officials on Long Island Wednesday.
Two individuals who attend school in the Longwood district and a third who attends Freeport schools were diagnosed with Methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
MRSA is a strain of staph infection that is resistant to medicines traditionally used to treat the ailment. The potentially deadly bug, which can be treated with other antibiotics, is most commonly found in hospitals.
Recently, MRSA claimed the life of a teenager in Virginia, igniting concerns about its spread in schools.
