Three more dolphins are stranded in Northwest Creek in East Hampton.
Experts from the Riverhead Foundation say the three dolphins, including a baby, swam in from Gardiners Bay. They say the dolphins appear to be in good shape since the water is warm and there is enough food.
"Right now, what we're going to be doing is monitoring these animals over the next couple of days and making sure that the behavior doesn't change,? said Director and Senior Biologist Rob DiGiovanni of the Riverhead Foundation. ?As the tides come in the thought would be that they would back out into the open water"
In January, nearly two dozen dolphins were stranded in the same place. Despite numerous rescue attempts, only eight of the dolphins survived.
DiGiovanni says the main concern facing the dolphins is harassment by the public. He says police will be stationed near the sea mammals to ensure their protection.
