A 10-year resident of a Syosset mobile home park saw his home towed away today, the second casualty of a bitter battle between park residents and the firm that owns the land.
Nelson Hest says his moving day came without notice. "They're evicting me on an expired warrant, and they're purposely damaging this home so I can't move back in," he says.
As News 12 has reported, the landlord, STP LLC, obtained a warrant in January 2013 to clear out the park. However, residents say the warrant expired six months after it was issued, but the evictions are moving forward anyway.
On Friday, Barbara Pedote, the president of the park's association, was evicted. Caution tape now surrounds a gaping hole where her home used to be. Today she was working from her cellphone in the frigid temperatures to get to the bottom of what she is calling "illegal evictions."
Today in court, lawyers for the homeowners filed paperwork to stop any action until the landlord shows cause for the evictions.
Meanwhile, Hest is preparing for his first night without his home, and other residents say they fear they'll be uprooted next.
News 12's calls to STP's lawyers went unanswered.
