Police say a second suspect has been arraigned in the machete stabbings of three teens at Hempstead Lake State Park.
Prosecutors say Evilson Orellana, 18, of Hempstead, is an alleged gang member and one of three suspects who slashed three other teens with a machete on May 23.
Officials say Orellana, and other members of the MS-13 gang, attacked the group of Hempstead H.S. students, who have also been identified as members of the rival 18th Street gang.
Orellana is facing attempted murder, felony assault and criminal possession of a weapon among other charges. He has been remanded without bail.
Earlier this month, 17-year-old Francisco Romero, a reputed member of MS-13, was arrested on assault charges.
Court records show that Romero admitted to police that he attacked the teens in the park, but not with a machete. He allegedly told officers that he hit the group with a branch until it broke, then used his hands to finish off the attack.
Police say they are still searching for the third teen involved in the incident.
