It has been 25 years and Alaska is still struggling to recover from one of the world's worst environmental nightmares, the Exxon Valdez oil spill.
On March 24, 1989, Joseph Hazelwood of Huntington was captain of the 987-foot tanker that ran aground in Prince William Sound in Alaska.
Hazelwood's tanker dumped nearly 11 million gallons of toxic oil and coated tens of thousands of otters, seals, birds and fish.

Some generations of Alaskan family fishing and hunting businesses never bounced back after the incident.
