Homeowners are facing a steep financial squeeze this season as home heating oil prices surge to historic highs.
Dennis Traina, president and CEO of Tragar Home Services, notes that current prices are hovering between $5 and $6 per gallon.
"That's twice what it was last winter," Traina said.
That dramatic jump is driving widespread anxiety among his customer base.
"Customers are so concerned about this winter’s heating oil prices. They don’t know what to do," Traina told News 12, adding that many are torn between locking in a rate now or riding out the market.
Traina advises a ceiling program, which comes with a fee. He said that protects the high side, and can lower a customer's prices when oil prices fall.
Traina said people can also see a return on investment by installing a new boiler, which "can make a considerable difference in your heating bills this winter."
