Democratic incumbent Rep. Tom Suozzi and Republican challenger Mike LiPetri faced off in a News 12 debate on Tuesday as they vie for New York's 13th Congressional District.
The district spans all of Nassau County's North Shore, which includes most of the Town of Hempstead, a large part of the Town of Oyster Bay and even portions of the Town of Huntington, Hempstead and the borough of Queens.
Suozzi defeated LiPetri for the seat in Congress in 2024. He is also a former Nassau County executive and mayor or Glen Cove.
LiPetri is an attorney and a former state assemblyman, who has also worked in the New York City Law Department.
This race could determine which party will control the House.
The candidates tackled various questions from voters, ranging from immigration, the rising cost of living and public safety, among other issues that are impacting Long Island.
