Martinez’s nephew, Jamie Puebla, was sitting with his uncle when the man, whom he recognized as a neighbor from his building, suddenly approached them.

“This really aggressive guy came up. We were sitting and he hit him in the back of his head and threw him down,” Puebla said.

He says he tried to help his uncle after the attack, but there was little he could do.

“I couldn’t do anything else because there was a lot of blood coming from his mouth,” Puebla said.

Police say the attacker ran from the scene, leaving Martinez behind.

Martinez was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Puebla says he still doesn’t know what sparked the confrontation.

“I don’t know if they had problems, but things shouldn’t be done this way. People just need to talk,” he said.

The family is now left heartbroken and searching for answers.

“He killed him, and that’s not the way things are supposed to be,” Puebla said.

No arrests have been made.

The investigation is ongoing.
