It's been a month since over 160 cats and two dogs were rescued from a condemned home in Glen Cove.

Now, a local animal shelter is trying to find them their forever homes.

As News 12 has reported, a Glen Cove woman was arrested earlier this month after officials said they found cats and dogs hoarded inside her home on St. Andrews Lane, where her two daughters were also allegedly living in poor conditions.

The homeowner, 54-year-old Olena Horbatko, is facing multiple charges, including animal cruelty and endangering the welfare of a child.

Now, the focus is on finding loving families for these animals.

"We're so looking forward to them getting a good home," says co-director of the Cove Animal Rescue Diane Connolly. "They were living in an area of very high ammonia indication. Therefore, they do have some upper respiratory issues in some case, but it's not life threatening."

"They were in the ceilings of the house. They were in the walls. They were all over," says Nassau County SPCA Advisory Board Member Candy Udell. "There are so many that need homes and fostering is the best thing you can do to save an animal's life."

Cove Animal Rescue received nearly 50 of the cats and the two dogs.

One of the dogs has already been adopted. But the other dog, a shepherd named Ally, is looking for a home.

"She's beautiful, she's strong, she's healthy," says Connolly.

They're still trying to find families for some of the cats and homes for the kittens in the future.

"They are happy and playful and sweet. Very, very sweet for all they've been through," says Connolly.

If you're interested in adopting, contact the Cove Animal Rescue.
