Two men were killed in Soundview Thursday night and the suspects are still on the run, according to the NYPD.
The shooting happened at 1643 Westchester Ave. just after 10 p.m. Surveillance video from the area shows two men running from the scene moments after gunfire erupted.
Witnesses captured EMS personnel attempting to save one of the victims, but both men later died.
One of the victims was identified by his wife as Egbert Rutherford. His wife, Angelique Irving Rutherford, said she had been outside since early Friday morning, struggling to cope with the loss.
“I didn’t sleep at all last night. I’ve been outside here since 5 a.m., just walking around,” she said. “I have no family.”
She described her husband of 13 years as a hardworking man who supported others.
“He took care of old man… he worked seven days a week,” she said.
Neighbors identified the second victim as Curtis Brown and said the violence has left them shaken and fearful.
“It’s devastating. This has to stop,” one resident said. “Somebody just got shot in the head a few months here, right on the same block.”
Police say three people fled the scene after the shooting. No arrests have been made.
