The MTA is no longer buying the former Lawrence Aviation Industries site in Port Jefferson Station.

The purchase was part of a plan to electrify the Port Jefferson LIRR line. The Suffolk County Executive’s Office says that plan is now in limbo.

The aviation site originally produced titanium sheet metal for nearly five decades. More recently, a $48 million environmental cleanup effort was completed there.
