Sounds of gunfire prompt rapid security response at the White House

Reporters from multiple media outlets are saying that they heard multiple gunshots near the White House on Saturday, triggering a full lockdown and immediate response from the U.S. Secret Service, according to CNN.

A secret service official told CNN that the agency is investigating reports of shots fired at the corner of 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue Northwest, which is just outside of the White House.

CNN reports that some media personnel were told to shelter in place, while others were rushed into the White House briefing room.
