Man faces charges in crash that killed former assemblyman in Newark

A man from Elizabeth is facing charges in the death of former Assemblyman Alberto Coutinho.

Police arrested a man accused of causing a crash that killed a former New Jersey assemblyman.

John Arango-Taborda, of Elizabeth, is facing charges.

Officials said Arango-Taborda was speeding Sunday in Newark when he crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of McCarter Highway and South Street.

Former Assemblyman Alberto Coutinho was the other driver and died at the hospital from his injuries.
Arango-Taborda was also injured.

He is charged with manslaughter and vehicular homicide.
