The streets of New Hyde Park were filled with music, marchers and plenty of Irish pride as community members gathered for the village’s annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration.

A sea of green lined Jericho Turnpike as residents and visitors came together to watch the parade, a long-standing tradition hosted each year by the New Hyde Park Fire Department. Under clear blue skies, firefighters marched alongside multiple EMS agencies, local organizations and community groups.

For many families, the parade is more than a celebration - it’s a way to honor their heritage and share their culture with the next generation.

“We have a strong community and strong heritage,” said Colleen Connaughton. “It’s a great day to come out and celebrate, and we got great weather.”

Others in the crowd echoed that sentiment, highlighting the inclusive spirit that has become a hallmark of the holiday.

Jennifer Wynne, whose family traces its roots to County Galway, said the day is an opportunity for people to celebrate where they come from.

“All people should celebrate their heritage and their backgrounds,” Wynne said. “Everyone is allowed to be Irish on St. Patrick’s Day, so we are happy to have everyone here.”

That welcoming atmosphere was felt throughout the parade route. Rezaul Haque, a New Hyde Park resident who is not Irish, said the holiday still feels like a community celebration.

“It’s a great holiday,” Haque said. “We are not Irish personally, but we have a lot of Irish neighbors and it’s a great day to celebrate with them.”
