A man from South Carolina drowned off the shores of Sailors Haven on Saturday afternoon, according to police.
Authorities say Ishmoile Mohammed, 59, was swimming when he became caught in a rip current around 2:45 p.m.
Lifeguards pulled him from the water and tried to render aid. He was then airlifted to a hospital and pronounced dead.
Authorities say an investigation is ongoing. Anyone with additional information about the incident is urged to call police at 631-852-6392.
