Neighbors in Crotona Park spent hours Wednesday managing the heat without water.

It happened after a major sinkhole opened up on Vyse Avenue.

Neighbors believe the hole formed following the heavy rain earlier this week.

The NYC Department of Environmental Protection said crews turned off the water while they searched for the source of the leak.

Many neighbors said they had no idea what was going on until a notice was placed on their door Wednesday morning.

"We have piling dishes piling up in the sink. We can't flush the toilet," said Brandon Santana. "We can't cook, and it's just hectic."

The DEP confirmed the leak was found and water was restored to everyone by Wednesday afternoon.
