President Donald Trump is voicing opposition to raising the cap as negotiations for the state and local tax (SALT) deduction deal continue.
Before a key meeting with House Speaker Mike Johnson and other Republican lawmakers, he stated that governors from “Democrat states” are the ones who want the increase.
“The biggest beneficiary are governors from New York, Illinois and California. Those governors blew it because they weren't able to get it,” he said.
Bayport Republican Rep. Andrew Garbarino says they were promised more data from the Joint Committee on Taxation in a meeting on Tuesday morning.
"SALT is being used for things that are already in this bill. And we just ask that they consider that when asking us to support other things,” he said.
