Residents at East Patchogue senior facility say the only elevator has been broken for weeks
Residents of Conifer Village at Patchogue Senior Apartments in East Patchogue say the only elevator in their building has been broken for weeks, and many unable to use the stairs.

An out-of-order sign is on the elevator of a 55-and-over apartment building in East Patchogue.
"It's totally messed up our lives. I feel like a prisoner upstairs,” said resident Laurie Coleman.
Residents of Conifer Village at Patchogue Senior Apartments who have trouble going up and down the stairs say they have been unable to do daily errands like going to the grocery store and even going to doctors’ appointments.
"Wasn't able to go to my sons-in-law's house for Easter to see my grandkids. I had to cancel an appointment that I needed to go to,” said resident Susan Lopez.
Residents say the elevator has been out of order for more than two weeks, and the only alternative is using the stairs, which people in wheelchairs can't use to go up and down.
"I'm in a wheelchair, you can't go no place with the elevator being broke,” said resident Sandra Bell.
Anthony Jose Pagan is in a wheelchair and lives on the first floor but needs the elevator to get to the laundry room.
"Can't even do the laundry because the washing cleaning room is upstairs,” he said.
As News 12 has reported, a neighboring building in the same complex had issues in 2023 with that elevator often breaking down, and garbage that piled up for days.
Both buildings are managed by Conifer LLC.
Right now, neighbors say they need the elevator to work as soon as possible.
"Tuesday we're getting a part. Now they tell us it's not until Friday. Now you really think it's going to happen Friday?” said resident Judy Fisher.
News 12 reached out to Conifer LLC for comment about the broken elevator.
Their full statement:
"We are aware of the elevator issue and understand the inconvenience this has caused for our residents. Their safety and well-being is always our top priority.
We’ve contracted a licensed repair company, and work is actively underway. We’re working closely with the contractor and have been assured the elevator will be fully operational by Thursday, and no later than Friday. We appreciate our residents’ patience and are committed to resolving this as quickly as possible. In the meantime, we are encouraging any resident who has an urgent need to contact the management office so we can assist."
