If you walk along parts of the Station Yards project in Ronkonkoma, you'll now see more than construction.

Today, community arts advocates unveiled a pair of massive murals. One is on the outside of the parking garage on Union Avenue and the other on the side of the French Workshop on Hawkins Avenue.

"Being able to facilitate public art projects like this brings art to these big developments," Patchogue Arts Council Executive Director Beth Giacummo said.

The projects are part of a $1 million grant from the New York Council of the Arts to invest in more public arts projects statewide this year.

Spain-based artist Lula Goce is behind the art. She had been working for the last three weeks.

She said it's her way of helping to make Long Island more vibrant and walkable.

Last week, developers held a groundbreaking ceremony for the next phase of Station Yards.

Three new buildings are going up that will include 285 new apartments, alongside 30,000 square feet of medical space for Northwell Health.

The first new building on Union Avenue is expected to be done by next summer, followed by the remaining two buildings in 2028.

All of these efforts are part of an overall $1.3 billion effort to create Long Island's largest transit-oriented development.
