2 dogs rescued during Central Islip house fire
News 12 was told the family was out shopping at the time. They got home to their house on fire, and told firefighters their two dogs were inside.

Firefighters say two dogs were rescued during a Friday night house fire in Central Islip.
They responded to the fire on Peters Boulevard just after 6 p.m.
“We had a lot of fire out the front door, heavy smoke throughout the entire house," said Central Islip Fire Department Captain Shaun Correira.
News 12 was told the family was out shopping at the time. They got home to their house on fire, and told firefighters their two dogs were inside.
“We made the basement and that’s where I found the one dog that took off running. I was able to scoop him up, and then Firefighter Falco found the second dog about three feet away," Correira said. "We’d do it for anyone. I take partial to dogs. I like dogs, and they don’t have a chance to get out like humans do, so you got to give them a little extra help.”
“That’s our job. I love it. There’s nothing better," said Jason Falco, a firefighter with the Central Islip Fire Department.
The family asked not to be identified but they showed News 12 their dogs, Charlie and Tyson. They say they're unharmed and doing fine. They were staying with neighbors as of Saturday evening.
News 12 was told one firefighter was hurt but is expected to be OK.
Firefighters believe the cause of the fire may have been from an overloaded extension cord.
