The ongoing search for a suspected killer along Long Island's North Shore has residents on edge.

Those living in the Rocky Point and Shoreham areas have reported several large police presences throughout the week.

"Every now and again we have helicopters," Shoreham resident Amanda Willenbacher said. "We have the mobile unit at the north of the William Floyd Parkway. There are cops in the presence over by the cemetery. So, they are over there."

Several times police have closed off roadways or diverted traffic for the investigation in the area of State Route 25A and William Floyd Parkway though police wouldn't confirm it was related to this investigation.

The lingering investigation has people on edge.

"A lot of the parents are a little nervous because nobody's being told if the person is alive," Rocky Point resident Judy Sweeney said. "Should they be locking their doors? Should they keep their kids in from playing? So, I know they can't give out too much information but something like that to people around would be good."

While others are taking basic precautions.

"I have the house locked, I got all kinds of surveillance cameras, an alarm system," Middle Island resident Marty Weinmiller said as he walked his dog Friday morning near the woods where police have been active.

Police have accused Matthew Zoll, 23, of fatally stabbing his father, Joseph Zoll, 61, at their Rocky Point home last Saturday, Nov. 9. Police publicly named Matthew as a suspect the next day.

Investigators said Matthew is 6 feet 1 inch, 150 pounds with brown hair, brown eyes and a small scar under his left eye. The photo released of Matthew showing him with shorter hair was taken just last month, according to police.
