A grand funeral service was held for the oldest active funeral director in lower Fairfield County Saturday.

A two-horse drawn carriage made its way down Washington Boulevard to Holy Name of Jusus Church in Stamford to honor Gerald Bosak Sr.

Bosak Sr. owned Bosak Funeral Home, which has been in operation since in 1919.

"He was a quiet, humble man." said Gerald Bosak Jr. of his father.

Members from funeral homes in Stamford and Norwalk also attended the sevice.

Bosak Jr. explained the unique brotherhood within the funeral home community as they are all trusted to take family members into their caring hands before loved ones say their final goodbyes.

"As a brotherhood, they are the quiet caretakers or the undertakers that undertake families walking them through that veil," Bosak Jr. said.

Bosak Sr. is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann, his three children and two grandchildren.
