Suffolk PD: Man’s hand, 3 fingers severed while using fireworks in Brentwood

Authorities say 66-year-old Barry Nelson was in his backyard on Eastern Avenue when it happened around 9 p.m.

A Brentwood man's left hand and three right hand fingers were severed while using fireworks Saturday night, according to police.

Authorities say 66-year-old Barry Nelson was in his backyard on Eastern Avenue when it happened around 9 p.m.

Police say Nelson was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital in serious condition.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on the incident to contact the Suffolk County Police Third Squad at 631-854-8352.

Police did not go into detail how the incident unfolded.
