Yonkers police announced that they arrested a 17-year-old male in connection with Monday's fatal hit-and-run on Van Cortlandt Park Avenue.

While they can't reveal his identity due to his age, police said the 17-year-old was taken into custody without incident.

They said he and the vehicle were located at an East Meadow home on Long Island on Tuesday.

He's now charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, which is a felony in the New York state.

His arrest came after Yonkers police said they got a report Monday afternoon about a motor vehicle accident in which a 21-year-old male pedestrian had been struck near the area of 632 Van Cortlandt Park Ave.

Police said first responders found the 21-year-old pedestrian severely injured when they arrived on scene. He's now identified as Jadon Bennett, of Yonkers.

Police said responders gave him medical attention. He was later transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

According to Yonkers police, detectives from several units investigated the incident. They said their investigation determined that Bennett was involved in a verbal altercation with a man sitting in a white Mercedes-Benz sedan in the area of 632 Van Cortlandt Park Ave.

Police said they believe the dispute stemmed from a previous interaction that the two men had over an online marketplace transaction.

They said as the altercation escalated, the driver accelerated the vehicle at Bennett, which caused his death, and fled the scene.

In the investigation, police said they learned that Bennett was in possession of a firearm during the altercation.

While there's no evidence that gunshots were fired, they said the firearm did fall to the ground when Bennett was struck. This also caused live ammunition to fall to the ground with it.

Police said they recovered all of these items from the scene.
