Despite Thursday’s chilly weather, Johnny’s Reef on City Island is back open for business for the 2024 season.
The fan-favorite City Island seafood spot welcomed back customers on Leap Day, with baskets of delicious seafood ready to go.
“We just came out to City Island and we were surprised to find out that Johnny's was open,” said customer Diane Simmons. “We've been coming here since I was little, since I was about 6 years old and now I'm 67, so it's a long time."
The Bronx staple has been serving quality classics for over 75 years and is known for its delicious fried seafood baskets.
“The customers have been great. They're always great. And they've been waiting for us to reopen, they've been chomping at the bit. We've been getting a lot of calls,” said owner Theodore Karikas.
Johnny’s Reef will be open Thursdays through Sundays and will expand to seven days a week once warmer weather is here to stay for the spring and summer.
